Householders can now sell excess rooftop solar power
The Bangkok Post reports that Thai householders with rooftop solar systems can now apply to sell excess electricity to state utilities. Government spokeswoman Rachada Dhnadirek said residents of Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan should apply through the Metropolitan Electricity Authority website, while residents elsewhere should use the Provincial Electricity Authority portal. Both state-run enterprises will buy surplus power at 2.20 baht (~6.6 UScent) per unit for 10 years, with each approved householder allowed to sell up to five kilowatts per meter. After online applications, the utilities will check applicant qualifications, announce qualified participants, sign power purchase contracts and inspect relevant systems before connecting purchases. Rachada said the project will cut household power bills and let citizens participate in clean energy generation.
